Our Existence is Meaningless

You are reading this. Odds are, you are alive, on this planet, in the present. You have journeyed through time and space to be exactly where you are now. Kudos to you on making it. You might tell from the title of the blog that this one is not a good read if you want something uplifting. I will present a very cynical perspective of the world here today, which, in the grand scheme of things, I believe is true. So, here it is: No matter what we do; no matter how successful we become; it doesn’t matter anyway, in the grand scheme of things. We love to believe that there is a higher purpose to our existence, and I hate to be the one to break the bubble for you, but the truth is: WE DON’T MATTER. NOTHING DOES. This is very cynical, yes, but think of it this way: If you were to be erased from existence, would the world suffer because of it? Probably not. And that goes for everyone in this world. You can be replaced . Everyone in this world can. You can be the best at wha...

Formal Education is Pointless

This is a touchy subject; especially for the parents out there who want their kids to go to college, but this is a question more and more people are asking every day. Let’s get something out of the way first: our current education system sucks. It uses a one-size-fits-all strategy where every student learns the same way, instead of focusing on what a specific student needs. Some would say that this is good since this creates an environment where everyone is treated equally. I disagree. Forcing someone who has no aptitude for math to study calculus is like trying to get Shakespeare to come up with the Poincare conjecture. That won’t work. Education should be about bringing out the best in you. It should be about teaching kids at the pace they feel comfortable at. Before anyone gets mad, let me say this; I understand the necessity of basic education, like basic algebra, writing skills, and basic world history. But this is where it should stop. You shouldn’t get a 16-year-o...

This is Why Porn is Good... And Bad

As you may have guessed from the very obvious title of this post, today’s topic of discussion is: Pornography. Now all of us are familiar with the term, and most, if not all of us here have watched porn in our lives. Today, the adult film industry is bigger than ever, making over $12 billion in the U.S.A. alone. Some say it might even be bigger than companies like Netflix. But this wasn’t always the case. There was a time when people had to plan watching porn. About 20 years ago, if you wanted to watch porn, you had you to go to a video rental store, rent porn, show an ID, and then watch it on your television when nobody was home. Now, all you have to do is type Pornhub on Google you’ll have thousands of hours of material to keep you occupied. Porn gets a bad rep in our society. Many people see it as “evil” Almost everyone watches porn, but people still ostracize porn and pornstars. The industry doesn’t get the respect it deserves, and the society sees the p...

The Ultimate Lesson in Philosophy

Call me crazy, but I have found one of the greatest life lessons in a computer game. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the game Assassin’s Creed. It’s people in the modern-day reliving the memories of their super cool assassin ninja ancestors through a machine called the Animus. I was crazy about Assassin’s Creed. The “creed” or motto of the Assassin Order in the games makes sense in the real world and is perhaps one of the wisest lessons in philosophy for me. Their creed is: “Laa shay’a waqi’un mutlaq bale kouloun moumkin.” Or, “Nothing is true, everything is permitted.” In the words of Ezio Auditore, the protagonist of some games, “To say nothing is true is to understand that the foundations of the society are fragile and we are the shepherds of our civilization. To say everything is permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.” Let’s examine this: The first part of...

Chaos is Order

Do you know what the most depressing thing in this universe is? The second law of thermodynamics. It says that the net entropy of the universe cannot decrease. No matter how hard we try to bring order and meaning to our lives and this world, the universe has different plans. Everything will only move towards chaos. And every living species on this planet hates chaos because it threatens the existence of the species. Constant chaos forces us to build up our defenses and stay in a constant state of fear. Whenever there is too much chaos, also know as war, people die. It separates families, millions lose their lives, and we lose valuable resources. Ask anyone who’s been a part of a war, and they’ll say war is not worth it. But chaos is crucial to our survival. Chaos is a double-edged sword. It has repercussions, but it also has a benefit we often overlook. Chaos is responsible for evolution. When there is peace, there is no threat to your existence, and...
