Not Everyone Deserves to be Happy.

Do you know what the most ancient piece of storytelling is?  It is a poem from ancient Mesopotamia called the ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ It tells the story of a king, who despite being a demigod, struggled his entire life to find meaning in his existence. And when his end came, he realized it was nothing but an endless march towards a tomorrow that never actually showed up. Now more than ever, equal rights, equal opportunities, mental well-being, and fulfillment in one’s personal and professional life are crucial to the livelihood of humans. And while an otherwise beautiful thing, it is also a joyful way of journeying on a path towards something grim. The premise of today’s discussion: Not everyone deserves to be happy.  This may seem like a blasphemous thing to say, wishing evil for your fellow man, but deep down, we all know this argument has some merit. Look at something very banal: Everyone in this world leads different lives, we do, feel and experience things differently; we acc...

Lying Makes Us Truthful

We have something called the herd-mentality, which essentially means that we like social things. We like staying together, doing things with others of our kind, and finding happiness in the existence of other people with us. For as long as we have existed, we have been this way. Humans started off as hunter-gatherers because it ensured the survival of our race back then. As we progressed through time, this trait of being together and being happy was imbued into us. When we find our people, we are happy. We do things with them and find happiness in doing so. If our people see us as the odd one out, or they see us as a threat, we lose their validation, and our brain screams "existential threat" When our actions or who we are, fails to be validated by those we consider to be a part of our creed, i.e. humans, we desperately look for ways to win back their favor. One of those ways happens to be lying. Lying is basically withholding information, or telling something that is made up...

What makes a writer go "I want to pull my hair out"

How's everyone doing today? We are back, after over a year of no pessimism. Life has been, well, weird and all of this has led me to figure out some very interesting things about how we, as a society, look at things. This is going to be a fairly short post, talking about one of the scariest things for a writer and the reason behind the almost year-long hiatus for this blog. Let’s talk about writer’s block, shall we?  Have you ever started a writing project with insane amounts of enthusiasm, only to give up somewhere around the middle? You’re putting words down on the paper, building up your story from the ground; and trying to focus on what the best direction would be for your story. Everything is going well. You’ve made decent progress in the last week or so, and you are nearing the climax. You sit down at your desk one day and crack your knuckles before you want to type, but as you reach for the keyboard, your mind goes poof. You don’t know what to write. You have an idea, or bet...

To Live is To Judge

In this beautiful creation we call the world, we often come across people rude to us;  strangers who, for no apparent reason, seem to have a problem with our being. The dictionary defines these people as “pricks” But what motivates people to just blabber out the first thing that comes to their mind with no regard for the other person’s feelings? Why can’t people just be content with living their lives? Why do we  always stick our nose in places it’s not supposed to be? The internet lends anonymity to people all over the world, giving them the freedom to do and say whatever they want to. Most of the time, this great, but sometimes, people have some not so gracious things to say about even the tiniest of things that irk them. And if what the person rants about is not “politically correct,” they get insulted back and their online existence becomes a living hell. “Words hurt more than sticks and stones” is an adage we are all familiar with, but even the wisest of...

Vegan Is Not The Way To Go!

Veganism is the practice of not consuming any animal products.  It has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. It's the latest trend among our millennials. Practitioners of veganism often voice out their disgust for the meat-consuming population, and they can be found riding on their soy-based moral high horse. The debate on this topic has seen a surge in recent years, and people, now more than ever, are divided on the subject. There are millions of blogs spread across the internet telling you why you should go vegan, and why it's better, but I'd urge you to not read them. Veganism is one of the most poorly conceived practices humans have developed in recent years. That's not to say veganism is bad. It is good, in some very specific cases, but as a race, humans ought to let go of their vegan tendencies. Evolution, for one, agrees with this blog. Humans evolved to be omnivores, and we have canines. These canines are designed to tear throu...

Your Life Is A Lie

Studies published in 2017 by the University of Southerland have shown a very interesting biological trait in humans: It is believed that people who have a familial history of bad metabolism can have an imprint of a certain genome sequence that can lead to abnormal metabolism and metabolic stress in individuals. We can observe this with the body’s detoxifying abilities. If your family has a history of obesity or other similar physiological ailments, you will probably suffer a similar fate.  Therefore, scientists and doctors recommend the detoxifying methods that can reduce the risk of the said ailments and help you live healthier and happier. Some of the most commonly recommended foods that have a scientifically proven cleansing effect on the body are Spinach, broccoli, and cucumber. Juices made from these vegetables have proven to boost the detoxifying abilities of the body and they have helped countless people overcome these problems. Have you tried detox therapy yet? Wo...

Freedom Is Imaginary

Our ancestors fought for centuries, to ensure that we live the best we can and there have been people and communities who seek to take that life away from us. And we fought them off. Most countries now are independent, have a serving government without oppression from foreign powers. People are free to do what and who they want; people are free to pick out their preference for food and get the lifestyle they imagined. But does that constitute freedom?  We are hemmed into strict schedules; we show up for work at a definite hour, go through the same tired routine and follow the same path as yesterday. We are bound by laws and watched by the elite who note every move we make. We are fed processed products and forced to take in what they give us. Is this what it means to live; to be free? Are we free? Starting from the aisle placement at the convenience store to the billion-dollar oil trade between some conglomerate and the government, everything we do...
